The Kimberly Echo Feb 2008

Jimmy Barnes for Moon Experience

AUSTRALIAN music legend Jimmy Barnes will be the headline entertainer for the sixth 2008 Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience.

Against a backdrop of a magical full moon on May 17, Jimmy Barnes is set to delight thousands of concert goers, tourists and corporate guests on the Kimberley’s night of nights.

In a major coup, Barnes’ daughters Mahalia and Elly-May will also travel with their father and perform at the gala outdoor event on the Lake Kununurra Golf Course.

Kununurra Chamber of Commerce president Frank Rodriguez said he was thrilled Barnes and his daughters would headline the evening’s entertainment.

“Jimmy Barnes is an iconic performer in Australia who appeals to a massive cross section of the community,” said Mr Rodriguez.

But it won’t be all just the Barnes family - the evening’s entertainment will also include the Australian Army Band – Darwin, popular Perth party band Peace Love and All That Stuff featuring Tod Johnston and a host of talented Kimberley musicians and entertainers.

Jimmy Barnes said he was excited to be part of such an iconic event.

“I’m honoured to be invited to perform in Kununurra,” he said.

“I love the Kimberley region and its people; the girls and I are really looking forward to the night.”
The Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience will be the finale to the two-week Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster, which runs from May 2 to 18.
This year it will feature more than 30 events, special tours, sporting challenges and activities in and around Kununurra.

Event coordinator Taneille Anderson said full details of the program would be available shortly.
“Everything’s coming together and it looks like the Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster is going to be yet another fantastic two-week showcase of the Kimberley region.

“We just can't wait for it to kick off," she said.
The Muster has grown to become one of WA’s most iconic events and one of the region’s most acclaimed entertainment spectacles, attracting more than 3500 visitors to Kununurra.

An initiative of the Kununurra Chamber of Commerce, the event was created to extend the East Kimberley’s peak tourist season.

It has received numerous awards including: Three WA Tourism Awards for ‘Significant Festivals and Events’ in 2007, 2004 and 2003 (and in 2008 will become a Hall of Fame inductee); Australia’s North West regional tourism organisation’s Best Attraction in 2006 and a WA Regional Achievement and Community Award 2006.

Jimmy Barnes will join a star-studded list of past performers at the Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience, including Marcia Hines, Kate Ceberano, Richard Clapton, Wendy Matthews, The Dave Mann Collective and Australian Idol’s Jessica Maulboy.

Jimmy Barnes will perform songs from his 35-year music career which began from his time with Cold Chisel and continues with his currently acclaimed 14th solo album ‘Out of the Blue’.

Early in 2007, he underwent open-heart surgery to repair a congenital heart defect.

Recovery from the surgery necessitated several months of bed rest.

It was during this time that Jimmy began writing ‘Out In the Blue’.

Tickets to the 2008 Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience are $75 for adults, $25 for children three to 15 years, $160 for families of two adults and three children under 15 years.

A strictly limited number of VIP tickets to the Kimberley Fine Diamonds Corporate Circle will be released at $390 per person.

All tickets will go on sale in mid February with full details yet to be advised.

Once tickets are released, ticket bookings, travel, accommodation and local tour reservations can be made through the Kununurra Visitor Centre on 9168 1177.
